About Chavez Custom Knives

Chris at Chavez Custom Knives started in 2019 with a piece of rebar, a ground forge, and a lot of curiosity.

The first knife was forged outdoors using charcoal, a dryer vent hose, and a hair dryer for airflow. That simple setup turned a piece of scrap steel into something useful—and sparked a deep interest in the craft. From that moment on, knife making became more than a hobby. It became a pursuit of constant learning, refinement, and intentional design.

Originally from New Mexico, time spent living in Texas helped shape both the work ethic and the early designs. Today, Chavez Custom Knives is based in South Carolina, where every knife is still built with that same mindset: always improving, always learning, and always focused on making tools that are meant to be used.

Each knife is designed with durability, control, and real‑world function in mind. The goal is simple—create strong, reliable tools that perform when it matters. Designs are developed in‑house and refined through hands‑on testing, with an emphasis on clean geometry and purposeful ergonomics. Freehand grinding allows each blade to develop its own character while maintaining high performance and consistency.

A major part of the brand is Legacy Layers, a proprietary handle material made by bonding multiple fabrics together under pressure with resin. This creates unique layered patterns that are both durable and visually distinctive. No two handles are ever exactly the same, and each one is built to handle real use in both dry and wet environments.

Knives are more than tools. They carry stories. They are used on adventures, passed between friends and family, and eventually handed down. Every knife that leaves the shop is built with that in mind—to become an heirloom piece that gathers memories over time.
